Dr Rethabile Melamu is a dynamic and self-motivated professional, trained as a Chemical and Environmental Engineer at the University of Cape Town. She is currently the General Manager for the Green Economy Unit at The Innovation Hub and a member of the Executive Committee. Before that, she acted in the position of the Chief Director: Sector and Industry Development in the Gauteng Department of Economic Development following her position as the Director: Green Economy in the same Department. She has more than 10 years experience in the green economy sector, including in the renewable energy sector broadly and biofuels sector specifically; she also has expertise in the following areas; waste management; innovation and enterprise development. She has experience in developing public sector strategies, and led the revision of the Gauteng Energy and Green Economy strategies. She has vast research experience in the technology innovation field as it pertains to critical elements that contribute to success of emerging technologies in a specific context. She has published reports and academic articles in her fields of expertise and has participated as a speaker at several conferences. She was a to 8 finalist of outstanding woman in Africa in energy and water sectors at the 2017 Africa Utility Week. She sits on advisory committees and serves as a member of a board.
