Loyiso Makapela was admitted to the Johannesburg in December 2018. She holds LLB and LLM (International Economic Law) degrees from the University of the Free State and an LLM (Law, Development and Governance) from the University of London (SOAS). Loyiso is currently reading for a joint LLD/PhD in Law degree at Stellenbosch University and Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam.
Prior to joining the Johannesburg Bar, she worked as an academic at the University of the Free State and her research has been published in an accredited South African journal. In 2017, she clerked at the Supreme Court of Appeal predominantly for Justices Navsa and Ponnan.
Loyiso’s main areas of interest are Administrative Law, Constitutional Law, Customary Law, International Law, Mining Law, Environmental Law, Labour Law and General Commercial Litigation.
